A Few Words from the Founder
Raised in a Hungarian Home, Refined by the Desert
Where Flavor, Instinct, and Lineage Met the Stillness that Sharpened Everything I Know
Hopeful Goulash didn’t begin as a business. It began as a way of seeing.
I come from a Hungarian lineage that understands something essential: joy and sorrow can travel together. There’s a phrase—sÃrva vigad—about finding a flicker of joy in the middle of what aches. It’s not denial; it’s endurance with openness.
I first learned this in my mother’s kitchen. She cooked by instinct—tasting, adjusting, trusting. Goulash wasn’t about perfection but about tending, turning what you have into something nourishing. She did this with her soup; she did this with life.
My life has asked the same from me.
For over 25 years, I’ve advised Fortune 500 companies and coached leaders across healthcare, technology, retail, education, government, and nonprofit sectors. The heart of my work—Connective Living—has always focused on leadership, clarity, and breakthrough.
Alongside that, I’ve walked a health journey of more than a decade, marked by life‑threatening tumors. I call it my time in the desert. Such experience strips things down. It stops you and places you directly in front of the unknown, fear, and what matters most.
My Hungarian roots gave me the instinct to keep going; living in the desert taught me stillness, inward listening, and how to create centering when life becomes unsteady. Two landscapes—a Hungarian kitchen and a desert horizon—offered intertwined lessons in resilience, discernment, and growth.
Here’s what I’ve learned: grit is gathered, resilience is a response, and talking is different than doing. When life becomes unpredictable, you adapt. You blend. You learn to hold both the weight and possibility at the same time. Seeing your circumstances this way keeps you from withering. It allows you to remain.
My journey didn’t just strengthen me; it taught me the art of vibrant living. I learned how stillness brings peace, and intentionality is the daily practice that invites choice. Hope became both my anchor and my discipline, shaping my purpose in new ways.
By the time 2020 arrived, when the whole world was on uneven ground, I had already trained for this era of uncertainty. Chasing and discovering hope had become my quiet expertise only celebrated by the simple, yet profound fact that I was still breathing.
I knew what I needed to do.
The Hope Clubâ„¢ was born. It began as a virtual gathering place for the chief executives I had been working with, and it grew quickly. Leaders who were once strangers became a genuine community, and soon I was asked to bring this format into their organizations. Hope keynotes, workshops, and ongoing virtual meetings followed across corporations, schools, private groups, and, most urgently, large healthcare systems.
By the end of 2025, more than 73,000 people had experienced The Hope Clubâ„¢, with healthcare professionals making up nearly 80% of the audience. Hope became our shared language, while its application stayed deeply personal.
Together, We Created a Quiet Corner With Loud Hope
It became clear that sharing my expanded leadership philosophy through the lens of hope was speaking directly to people navigating the pressures of modern life. The Hope Clubâ„¢ was a natural progression of my work. It offered executives, leaders, teams, caregivers, and everyday humans a space to explore resilience as a way forward. Calming without being therapy. Centering without imposing a belief system. Inspiring without being a classroom. Practice without being a program.
The connection this work generated has called me to do more.
Hopeful Goulash is where all these threads come together—heritage, leadership, experience, adversity, need, and the lived practice of resilience. Through four customizable pathways (practices, clubs, coaching, and experiences), I share what I know openly and honestly—not as theory, but as lived experience.
Hopeful Goulash blends hope, presence, insight, and grounded tools that work in real life. Bring what you have—your strong parts, your struggling parts, and everything in between. We’ll blend it into something hopeful that can sustain you.
I’m with you.
Sincerely,
Kathy Tomena Gauthier
